The Big One exploding, showing the area of effect across its massive blast radius
Area of Effect (also shortened as AoE) is an attack style characterized by creating a radial area of damage to pop bloons. It is part of the damage types family. All attacks with the Explosion damage type have this. Some non-explosive attacks have this too.
Area of Effect is represented on the Bloons Wiki as , the upgrade artwork for The Big One in Bloons TD 6 which depicts a powerful explosion. All types of explosions in the game guarantee to have this, and same applies for attacks with Explosion
damage type. Explosives may also be accompanied with Burst
due to them generally appearing from visible projectiles, except Mortar Monkeys which just lob them onto a specified location. Attacks with Area of Effect without
that are not Mortar Monkeys are generally stationary, creating continuous radial attacks within range (e.g. Ring of Fire). Pat Fusty's slam attacks are considered Area of Effect and are created close to him. The key factor that constitutes Area of Effect is the fact that damage can occur within a specific area, often within a circle.
There also exists a subset of Area of Effect called Partial Area of Effect , which is used by Sauda due to her unique melee attacks.
Area of Effect is not the same as Contact Damage because Contact Damage involves the same projectile's contact area doing extra damage, but Area of Effect involves individual attacks to cause extra damage. The key difference between the two is whether or not the same projectile hits the same bloons more than once, and stationary area-of-effects such as Bloontonium Reactor and Glaive Lord more considered as damage zones, and therefore only count for Area of Effect.
