“ | Tridents can pop Lead Bloons and grow in power faster. Ice Jet ability: Launches a barrage of bouncing ice balls following target priority, or targeted point. | ” |
~ In-game descripion |
Arctic Knight is the fourth upgrade of Path 2 for the Mermonkey in Bloons TD 6. Alongside additionally improving the icy wave growth and the popping and freezing of Lead Bloons, it grants the Ice Jet ability. When the Ice Jet ability is activated, a barrage of bouncing ice balls is shot continuously at a rate of 10 times per second, each ice ball dealing 15 non-penetrating damage, 240 pierce, and freeze bloons for 3 seconds onto up to 3 layers from each hit onto all bloon types, excluding Purple Bloons but including Lead Bloons. The rate of shooting ice balls from the Ice Jet ability can be improved by attack speed buffs. Ice balls are shot erratically relative to where the Mermonkey points, much like the Dartling Gunner. The Ice Jet's barrage can be set at a specified point (cooldown of 5s to set and un-set via Manual Targeting anywhere on screen) or following its own targeting priority to target anywhere on screen. The ability cooldown is 45 seconds along with a 15 second initial cooldown prior to first activation upon purchase.
Its main attack can now pop lead and is much stronger, dealing 50% more damage at base and growing in power 50% faster than the Riptide Champion, now scaling +75% per second (+112.5% with 2-4-0), up to 2.5x. More specifically, the unbuffed trident deals 6 damage, +3 Frozen damage, and +6 MOAB-class damage, and at maximum damage it becomes 15 damage, +7.5 Frozen damage, and +15 MOAB-class damage. Pierce of each trident is now 14 instead of 8, and they now freezes 5 layers for 0.5s. Tide splits have 12 pierce instead of 8, and deal 6 damage instead of 4.
This upgrade costs $6,800 on Easy, $8,000 on Medium, $8,640 on Hard, and $9,600 on Impoppable.
Description[]
Overview[]
Arctic Knight wears a white helmet with golden outlines and two golden spiky "helmet horns", and a forehead emblem of a three-pronged "crown" with an icy octahedron on it, and long upper collars that are similar to Adora's collars on her cloak. This Mermonkey is now fully aquamarine throughout his scales and fur, including his tailfin. He also has bigger ears. He appears to be angry, as shown by his crossed eyebrows and crossed eyelids. The Mermonkey's teeth are sharp. On his left hand (or right in the case of the upgrade portrait), he holds a real trident, with a three-pronged icy blade, plus the same three-pronged "crown" as the crossguard, lots of tape around the grip, and a golden base at the end. The rock that this Mermonkey sits on has some icy crystals on it. On the upgrade portrait, Arctic Knight holds his trident upwards while the waves flow outwards from the rock.
Crosspathing changes appearance of the Arctic Knight. With Path 1 crosspathing, the color scheme gradually goes to dark blue. The "helmet horns" are tipped dark blue with Trident Efficiency, and with Trident Swiftness the Mermonkey gains dark blue fur. With Path 2 crosspathing, the color scheme is mostly pink. Echosense Precision inverts the color of the Arctic Knight's eyes, his tailfin is now color pink, and the trident's blade is tinted pink nearest the base, plus a pink crystal instead of blue. A small change is given compared to Echosense Precision when given Echosense Network, changing color of the swirls of the trident from blue to pink, and the "helmet horns" have two ends each.
The Arctic Knight improves upon the creation of riptides via magic. Waves summoned from the trident can pop Lead Bloons, grow in power even faster, and deal extra damage to all affected bloons, plus more damage to Frozen and now dealing extra MOAB-class damage. Additionally, the Arctic Knight gains the Ice Jet Ability, which unleashes a barrage of snowballs that bounce around for extensive durations and have incredible pierce and damage.
Activated Abilities[]
- See also: Activated Abilities (BTD6)#Arctic Knight
Arctic Knight has an activated ability, Ice Jet Ability. When activated, the Mermonkey shoots a barrage of bouncing ice balls that can target bloons or aimed at a specific point.
Like most magic-based activated abilities, Arctic Knight's ability cooldowns can be reduced by adding a global Energizer buff or Obyn Level 12+. It can have its ability cooldowns reset with Geraldo's Rejuv Potion.
Targeting Priorities[]
Arctic Knight targets bloons using the standard targeting priorities. Its trident attack shoots straight movement projectiles.
- First: Targets the first bloon visible within its range.
- Last: Targets the last bloon visible within its range.
- Close: Targets the closest bloon visible within its range.
- Strong: Targets the strongest bloon visible within its range.
Adding Echosense Precision grants camo detection to the Mermonkey, but does not add the Camo Prioritization targeting option.

Strategy[]
Summary[]
The Arctic Knight excels at clearing out large amounts of bloons, especially when the Ice Jet ability is properly timed and aimed correctly. Ice Jet's super rapid rate and incredibly high pierce allow the Arctic Knight to take out difficult rounds with ease. It may be helpful to take advantage of the capability to bounce off walls, although it is still unable to bounce off the edges of the screen. The basic attack is fairly decent for general damage, but only somewhat stronger than the T3 without its ability.
Tips[]
- Note that crosspathing with 2-4-0 doesn't affect the Arctic Knight's attack speed but does increase projectile speed in exchange for total lifespan. Whereas the 0-4-1 (0-4-2 doesn't change the ability) allows detection of Camo Bloons.
- For the main attack, crosspathing is situational. The 0-4-2 has better range and camo detection, plus the seeking waves do greatly improve the growing wave strength. 2-4-0 is stronger for general DPS, and the waves grow faster.
- Setting an Arctic Knight's Ice Jet ability on Manual Targeting is often more useful than automatic targeting, because this forces the snowballs to bounce in a specific direction, for more predictable angles. Note that Manual Targeting for the Arctic Knight can be set at any direction and angle, but watch out for the long cooldown to set and unset the reticle.
- As the Arctic Knight cannot pop Purples under any circumstance without supports, it is important to assist the Arctic Knight with additional towers that do pop Purple Bloons, such as an Ice Shards.
Version History[]
Balance Changes[]
The first notable strategy with Arctic Knight involved a bug involving Level 11+ Obyn + Arctic Knight neighboring synergies giving infinite projectile lifespan to Arctic Knight's Ice Jet ability. Ninja Kiwi acknowledged it, and slightly fixed the Version 44.1 bug as an intentional interaction, albeit less overpowered.

Bugs[]
- Current
None (so far)
- Patched
- [44.0] If an Arctic Knight is buffed by Level 11+ Obyn Greenfoot, the Ice Jet's projectiles do not despawn during a round. However, the Ice Jet's projectiles can still disappear if they hit map borders, the current round ends, or pierce-cap. An example of this interaction is showcased on the video "NEW BUG: Spillway CHIMPS with 130k SPARE CASH by Chocbox | BTD6" by BTD6 Index. This was partially patched in Version 44.1, where Ninja Kiwi kept the interaction but added an actual cap to the projectile lifespan of the Ice Jet's projectiles.

Trivia[]
- Arctic Knight is the successor of the Riptide Champion, which is unlike Dark Champion compared to Dark Knight. However, it could be argued that being a defender of the Arctic is more honorable than mastering the magic of summoning a mere riptide.
- The Ice Jet ability's sound effect, while similar to Snowstorm's ability, is actually a shorter version of the sound with less wind howling.
- The .prefab file for Ice Jet's ability is found in Mermonkey's sound folder, which is
