“ | The Abyssal Creature awakens, angrily lashing out at Bloons with powerful tentacles and granting nearby Monkeys a small pierce increase. | ” |
~ In-game descripion |
Abyss Dweller is the third upgrade of Path 1 for the Mermonkey in Bloons TD 6. The Mermonkey gains 8 tentacles that lash out at bloons, dealing 9 damage onto up to 24 bloons every 3s, each lash having a 8 blast radius and the Shatter damage type. Tentacles independently aim at any bloon within the range of the Mermonkey, each tentacle roughly 45° apart, with each arm directed horizontally, vertically, and diagonally, each with a field of vision of 22.5° on either side. Additionally, other towers within range of the Mermonkey gain the Abyss buff, gaining +5% pierce.
This upgrade costs $1,785 on Easy, $2,100 on Medium, $2,270 on Hard, and $2,520 on Impoppable.
Description[]
Overview[]
WIP Describe a little more about the monkey and the monster, not an expert in mythology, so finding out what the sea monster is a reference might be dubious at the moment |
Upon upgrading to Abyss Dweller, the Mermonkey sits on top of a sea monster. The Mermonkey gains a slightly emo appearance. He gains long hair on his right (or the player's left if viewed front-on), and his purple-colored lower eyelids are visible. His tailfin is now colored cyan. His trident "forklets" are now much larger and colored white. The tentacles of the sea monster occasionally wave around, similarly to Ocean Obyn's Wall of Trees ability.
Crosspaths do change the appearance of the Abyss Dweller. Crosspathing with Sharper Prongs adds a white "crown" around the monkey's head, while Icy Chill adds a octohedron-shaped blue crystal on the forehead of the crown. Echosense Precision colors the monkey's eyes black with white irises, and the monkey's staff has pink swirls around its base.
The sea monster is loosely based on the charybdis, a Greek mythological sea monster, as well as the multi-tentacled Kraken, a mythological cephalopod of Scandanavian and German origin. The sea monster is shielded by a black shell, with angry white eyes peeking out. It has 8 dark blue tentacles with cyan-colored undersides of the tentacles. Tentacles are independently attacking, each tentacle having a separate attack cooldown, and separated fields of vision. If bloons are within range, the tentacles slap bloons, dealing high damage across a tight radius and hitting many bloons at once.
Additionally, all towers nearby the Abyss Dweller gain the Abyss Dweller buff, receiving +5% pierce. A visible buff of the Abyss Dweller's percentage pierce buff gain an icon of an abyssal monster above the selected tower.
Targeting Priorities[]
Abyss Dweller targets bloons using the standard targeting priorities. Its trident attack shoots straight movement projectiles.
- First: Targets the first bloon visible within its range.
- Last: Targets the last bloon visible within its range.
- Close: Targets the closest bloon visible within its range.
- Strong: Targets the strongest bloon visible within its range.
Adding Echosense Precision grants camo detection to the Mermonkey, but does not add the Camo Prioritization targeting option.

Strategy[]
Summary[]
Combined with the tridents, the tentacles offer high damage at a slow rate within a short range. The tentacles don't synergize very well with the trident alone, as the tridents deal low damage, which could potentially clog up pierce of the tentacles. Extra pierce to all nearby towers allows the Abyss Dweller to give a unique synergy with towers that benefit from extra pierce, including Spike Factories, Super Monkeys, and Mermonkeys. Altogether, these benefits give a unique synergy with towers that benefit a lot from even just a little extra pierce, such as defensive and offensive Spike Factories, MOAB Press's special kylies, and the Arctic Knight.
Tips[]
- If used as support, the 3-0-2 is better for the extra range, allowing it to buff more towers within range. If for damage or Bloon control, 3-2-0 is better, for the extra pierce and capability to freeze Bloons with tridents.
- Some of the best synergies with Abyss Dweller include Spike Factories, because Abyss Dweller's high damage can be used to take out extra bloons within its range, while the Spike Factory takes advantage of the percentage pierce buff to lump up more "damage" from the thicker spike piles.
